The Overlooked Advertising Goldmine
If you’ve dismissed radio advertising as a viable advertising option, it might be time to reconsider. While radio is often perceived as too expensive for small and home based business owners, the truth of the matter is that radio is an incredibly cost efficient way to get your sales message out to your target market. This is true whether your business is one that is locally based or internet based.
Consider these figures:
In Canada, 93% of adults tune into radio on a weekly basis.
In the US, radio reaches 96.2% of adult men and 94.4% of adult women every week.
In Ireland, the figure is 85%.
That’s a pretty powerful platform, no matter where in the world you are.
With cost so often being a deciding factor in your marketing decisions it’s important to note that you can break into radio with a much smaller budget than newspaper or magazine advertising while achieving a much better return on investment than print advertising.
It’s a bit more difficult to effectively compare the costs of internet advertising to radio, simply because there are so many factors involved, including how popular the competing terms for your business are in pay-per-click models and how large your personal marketing list is. Obviously, if you’re in a great niche with low cost keywords and are highly optimized in the search engines or you’ve got a large mailing list to make offers to, then your internet advertising may be more cost effective than radio.
However, one of the things that make radio a compelling choice is the fact that radio listeners respond to the advertising they hear. Obviously, as an advertiser your biggest challenges is getting the prospective customer to take action. And radio listeners do.
Radio is perceived to be a very personal medium and listeners develop an attachment and respect for their favorite station. As a result, they have a lower resistance to radio advertising than to all other media, including internet advertising. The only method with less resistance for a first time customer is word of mouth advertising from a trusted friend or colleague.
If you are looking for advertising that delivers results, put radio back on your radar and seek out solid information on the costs involved. You may be surprised at how inexpensive a good campaign is and you’ll no doubt be impressed with the results.
